Everyone talks about this new Nintendo WiiFit Balance Board these days, that it’s great for loosing weight and that you don’t even have to leave home. But, does it really work? Get yourself in the right set of mind about it, though. Be serious, set yourself a goal and stay with the program: Like: Loose eight pounds within four weeks and see if it works if you really try.
Even if you have never been on a diet before, have no idea what BMI stands for and don’t own a scale, you might have a nice pair of 501 jeans that unfortunately don’t fit no more, so why not loose a few pounds? With the WiiFit Balance Board? All right, said and done! Watch out: This is not for the impatient guys. You have to go through drop down menus and enter your height and age.
A thin mickey mouse kind of voice talks to you: You got a Body Mass Index of 24,8, just about okay. The voice suggests you’d better loose about 9 pounds, and how about getting there in four weeks?! After consulting with yourself for a minute, you decided to give it a go. Your friend has already begun doing sit-ups on the floor. Trying to be provocative? You are still standing around and let the machine talk to you. Learn your virtual fitness age: 54?! Ouch! That hurt, right? A trainer on the screen shows you how to do it: Lift your knees, keep your balance and stretch out your arms. The virtual Jane Fonda in front of you has got a body as if she was gene-manipulated, and talks as if she’d taken about 20 sleeping pills.
Great, a female android is supposed to guide you through the next 4 weeks of training. Any time you have finished six waist turns or tree minutes of hip turns, the WiiFit shows the movements of your centre of gravity. If it stayed pretty much centered, you will earn some points. If it did not, you will hear smart remarks, like: “Your muscles are still to week to keep you steady”. Then you’ll see a piggy, and earn some credits for any minute of training. These enable you to go further up into the next levels, so well done exercises are rewarded with even more exercises. And the seed is planted: having a chocolate snack during lunch break seems kind of inappropriate at the moment. You keep yourself straight and erect. Can’t forget your WiiFit practise tonight. But even if you still feel silly standing in front of your TV set on a plastic board making funny movements, you are starting to enjoy the exercise.
It doesn’t hurt to double check so nobody’s watching you through the drawn curtains…
